This is a new company developed by Karen David supplying products for the equestrian discipline of Endurance; BHS TREC; Trail Riders and the general hacker.
Karen has been an active competitor since 1986, when she completed her first 25 mile Competitive Trail Ride run by the Endurance Horse and Pony Society of Great Britain (EHPS), riding Frisky, her 15 year old skewbald 15hh IrishX Cob. The rest as they say is history, Karen has completed for 20 years initially on Frisky and then progressing to her, then, young Welsh Cob Heugh Penceri Merlyn.
This combination achieved noticeable success at national level throughout their careers, competing consistently for 15 years in all level of national EHPS rides including Endurance Races. They were placed in every race ride they entered and Merlyn was only vetted out 3 times and never retired, throughout his long campaign. Their best year was in 1996 when they entered and successfully completed 12 national rides, coming 3rd in the Spirit of Sherwood 150mile race, run over 3 days, and being placed in 3 other race rides that year. This rendered them very successful at both national and group level.
Merlyn is now 25 years young and retired from Endurance but enjoys BHS Trec as a less demanding sport in his twilight years. Al Zahi Khazan, yes the business was named after him, is Karen’s replace endurance horse. He is a 16hh, dapple grey pure bred Arabian, 8 years old (pictured on the banner.) He is very striking and is a pleasure to work with, with a laid back attitude to life but loves to go! It is hoped that during 2007, when he begins his race ride campaign, he will show his true potential, which until now has not been tested.
Last but not least is Ibn Karima (Jason) he is ridden by Karen’s 16 year old daughter, Kirsty Wood, at national and FEI level. Kirsty has been competing in endurance since she was 8 and is a member of the British under 21 Squad. She was very unlucky not to achieve selection to the British team during 2006. She started Endurance on her 11.3hh Welsh Mountian Pony, Brierdene Britain, followed by Lindisfarne Celebration a 12.2hh Welsh Pony. She achieved notable success, with both, at group level. She then competed on Merlyn for a year until Karima was found and bought for her, the aim being to progress and achieve their full potential, in endurance races. He is a very well bred Arabian, grey (white), 15hh and 15 years old. Karima is a difficult horse to maintain and to compete on but Kirsty’s perseverance has paid off during 2006. They attempted 2 FEI 120km*** rides but were very unlucky, especially at Cirencester when he was spun lame at 108km, but did complete successfully in 3 Endurance races of 80k under Endurance Great Britain rules. They hope to improve on this during 2007 and be selected for the British Team.
Karen was also an active member of the local Group Committee for 10 years, and covered the roles of Trophy Secretary and Training Officer, she also developed as liaison group in the North East to aid the transition from EHPS/BERA to EGB. Kirsty was a member of the Pony Club for many years an was selected to represent them at the Millenium Ride at the Royal Windsor Show. She also enjoyed Tetrathlon, competing on Merlyn in the jumping phase, mum supported her throughout her Pony Club years and worked on the group committee.
Karen, is Kirsty and Karima’s crew, when not riding, along with her own crew and partner, Alan Stephenson. All work very hard at the sport they enjoy so much and have been actively involved in the development of the business, along with Karen’s son Adam Wood, who is the IT brains, and occasional crew.
